About Us
Grow Some Good cultivates a healthy community by strengthening local agriculture and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. We build and tend school gardens, farm-based learning sites, and community agroforests across Maui — turning empty lots, unused campus corners, and fire-scarred land into living classrooms and sources of fresh food.
What started as three raised beds at one Kīhei elementary school has grown into an island-wide network: hands-on garden education for thousands of students each year at school garden sites across Maui, our community agroforest farm in Kahului, and a growing list of neighborhood partnerships that put food, knowledge, and aloha ʻāina back into the hands of the people who live here.
Our program began in 2008 under South Maui Sustainability's School Garden Committee, created to support gardens at Kihei Elementary, Lokelani Intermediate, and Kamali'i Elementary. The founders believed that working with schools was the most direct way to reach future generations with knowledge about sustainability, the environment, and nutrition — and that a garden was the simplest, most powerful classroom there was.
In 2012, as the program expanded across Maui, the group took on a new name to match its growing mission: Grow Some Good. Through partnerships with the County of Maui, Community Work Day, the Maui School Garden Network, the Kīhei-Wailea Rotary Club, and a long list of local chefs, restaurants, and businesses, that mission has only grown — from a handful of school gardens to a full ecosystem of food security, education, and community agriculture programs spanning the island.
In the years since the 2023 Maui wildfires, our work has taken on new urgency. We've helped transform fire-prone, vacant land into productive community farmland, supported displaced families and schools, and partnered with organizations across the island to build a more food-secure, climate-resilient Maui — because growing good food is also how a community grows back stronger.
